Jokers and redemption
Jokers work in identical groups of three or more, not singles, pairs, NEWS or individual year digits. Three five-dots plus a joker can represent four five-dots; two different tiles plus a joker do not make a pung.
On your turn, after acquiring a tile and before discarding, a matching natural tile may redeem a joker from a valid exposure. You cannot call a discard solely to redeem, nor claim a discarded joker. Announce and verify the exchange.
