American Mahjong · Lesson 3

The Charleston

The first round passes three right, across, then left. Any player may stop the optional second round before it starts; otherwise pass left, across, right. Opposite players may agree on a final courtesy exchange of zero to three.

Never pass jokers. A blind pass is permitted on the last pass of each round. As a practice strategy, retain two plausible card lines and pass tiles useful to neither; avoid gifting an obvious ready-made set.

First Charleston: pass three tiles right, then across, then left. Jokers cannot be passed.
