Tiles and setup
Learn the eight-point minimum, compatible scoring patterns and settlement.
The usual set has 136 regular tiles plus eight flowers. Establish seat and round winds, shuffle, build and break the wall, then deal. Non-dealers begin with 13 tiles; the dealer has 14 and discards first.
Expose flowers and replace them; they do not form sets or the pair. Count a standard hand as 14 structural tiles: each kong adds an extra physical tile, and exposed flowers are separate.
